HISTORY

“Changing the world, one child and one community at a time.”

The Kiwanis Club of LBI is located on an 18-mile-long island strewn with small shore towns and long stretches of white sand. Long Beach Island, known as a paradise for beach lovers and fishermen, is home to about 20,000 year round residents.

As the island has changed since its discovery by early colonists and the influx of inhabitants via improved modes of transportation, so have the needs and the complexities of LBI’s communities grown over the years.

It was these concerns that brought community leaders together to form an organization that would promote the strengths and address the needs of our island’s citizens.  In August of 1975 the Kiwanis club of LBI was established and held its first organizational meeting. In October of that same year, the club received its official charter and installed its first officers.

Today, the Kiwanis Club of LBI maintains a growing membership of 35 who are actively involved in supporting and promoting our island way of life.
